In April 2022 Blomeyer & Sanz delivered the updated of the analytical study on “Documenting climate mainstreaming in the EU Budget” (2020). The update was requested by the European Parliament Committee on Budgets. The update provided an overview of the methodological approaches used by the European Commission to track expenditure on climate protection and biodiversity with a critical assessment of the methodology strengths and weaknesses. It also examined the legislative framework for the 2021-2027 programming period and the Commission’s approach to ensure achievement of the target for climate expenditure. Finally, the study also suggested objectives and recommendations for implementation of the Interinstitutional Agreement (IIA).
