Blomeyer & Sanz has completed the mid-term evaluation of the second phase of the the OSCE / ODIHR project ‘Turning Words into Action’ (WiA) – see https://www.osce.org/project/words-into-action. ODIHR works with security and educational institutions across the OSCE region to provide effective responses to anti-Semitism, intolerance against Muslims, racism, xenophobia and discrimination. The evaluation involved extensive desk research and interviews with project stakeholders across Europe throughout October and November 2021, and found the project to have performed very strongly in terms of making progress towards the objectives that the evaluation focused on, namely ‘Increased co-operation between civil society and law enforcement agencies to provide Jewish and other minority communities with security’, ‘Improved policy frameworks to educate on anti- Semitism and other forms of discrimination, as well as commemoration and education on the Holocaust’, ‘Increased capacity of civil society to create coalitions to address anti-Semitism, intolerance and other forms of discrimination’ and ‘Increased capacity of civil society to identify, collect data, and report on hate crimes’.
