Blomeyer & Sanz is conducting an evaluation of key aspects of the rule of law and judicial independence in Poland and several Central Asian countries. The evaluation forms part of broader efforts by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to strengthen democratic institutions and promote respect for human rights across its member states.
Through its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the OSCE supports member states in developing justice systems that uphold fundamental freedoms, often by advancing judicial and legislative reforms.
As part of the project “Strengthening Inclusive and Accountable Democratic Institutions in the OSCE Region relating to the Rule of Law, the Central Asia Criminal Justice Forum and Monitoring of (Pre-)Vetting of Judges and Prosecutors,” ODIHR hosted the ninth edition of the Criminal Justice Forum in Astana, Kazakhstan, in 2024. The event brought together representatives from across Central Asia to exchange experiences, share promising practices, and discuss ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing fairness, transparency, and accountability within criminal justice systems.
