BLOMEYER & SANZ HAS CONDUCTED A STUDY ON PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY THROUGH PARLIAMENTARY DIPLOMACY
Blomeyer & Sanz, together with experts from the Queen Mary University of London and Gender Solution has conducted a study on ‘Promoting gender equality through parliamentary diplomacy’ commissioned by the AFET committee of the European Parliament. The study describes the existing EP practices of gender equality promotion, analyses whether the current practices deliver on the commitment, and presents what can be learned both from the bottlenecks identified in the EP’s existing institutional arrangements and from the practices of other national parliaments and international parliamentary institutions. The study also provides policy recommendations aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the gender equality promotion through parliamentary diplomacy. The study applied a wide range of research methods, including desk research, quantitative and qualitative analysis of information gathered through semi-structured interviews, online survey and statistical analysis of the minutes of all EP delegation meetings and interparliamentary meetings in the period 2014-2020 as well as analysis of the dataset on the participation of members in the ordinary and inter-parliamentary meetings of EP delegations and committees/subcommittees in the period 2014-2020.
