Blomeyer & Sanz recently completed the evaluation of the European Union (EU) – League of Arab States (LAS) Project on Illicit Small Arms Phase II (2021-2024). This project, implemented by the Small Arms Survey, INTERPOL, and the World Customs Organization, aimed to enhance the national capacities of LAS Member States in combating the illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW), especially in post-conflict settings, while ensuring alignment with international human rights standards. Additionally, the project focused on increasing the LAS’s regional capacity to address SALW challenges, strengthening national control over SALW throughout their life cycle, and promoting the exchange of best practices. The evaluation was conducted through a review of project documentation, interviews with around 45 stakeholders, and observation of project activities.
