The INTERPOL Drugs unit developed Project AMEAP (Africa Middle East Asia Pacific) to help national authorities identify security threats and confront organized crime groups involved in illicit drug trafficking in these regions through the adoption of a cross-border, operational approach assuming the lead coordination role of INTERPOL. The original focus of AMEAP was regionally oriented, but the project expanded its geographical scope to become a global project by including the Americas & Europe.
