blomeyer & sanz presents at the EP the findings of the briefing note on sanctions in the EU related to illegal fishing
On 4 September 2014, Mike Beke (Blomeyer & Sanz) presented in the European Parliament (Committee on Fisheries) the findings of the briefing note ‘Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing: Sanctions in the EU’. The study provides information on the different approaches for addressing serious infringements, and an analysis of existing EU and international measures. It identifies differences between levels of monitoring, control and surveillance in Member States. Moreover, differences are observed between countries in the following-up of serious infringements and sanctions imposed. Therefore, it is recommended that Member States prioritise effective enforcement of IUU rules and promote harmonisation of penalties.
