In February 2015, Mike Beke (blomeyer & sanz) participated in a two-day policy forum in Brussels hosted by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD). During the first day of the forum, key findings and policy recommendations were presented from the SELDI Regional Anti-Corruption Report which lays down the good governance agenda for Southeast Europe. Speakers from the European Commission, the European Parliament and civil society discussed challenges the countries in the region are facing, especially from the perspective of future accession to the EU. During the second day, the Integrated Anti-Corruption Enforcement Monitoring Toolkit was presented in light of the MONAC project funded by the European Commission. CSD’s Director of Research, Alexander Stoyanov presented the findings of a case-study on the Bulgarian Border Police after which Lorenzo Segato (Director RISSC) and Mike Beke (blomeyer & sanz) commented on the application of the tool. The session was concluded by Mihaita Bardic (Chief Commissioner on anti-corruption at the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs) and Ozge Iskit (Manager PwC). The former discussed Romanian experiences with monitoring anticorruption policies. The latter presented findings from an EU perspective on corruption risks in public procurement.

The MONAC project aims to develop a monitoring and evaluation system on anti-corruption measures in the EU Member States. The two-year project is coordinated by CSD and carried out in collaboration with the University of Trento (eCrime). Mike Beke is member of the external expert panel and will continue to provide support during the course of the project
