Blomeyer & Sanz is preparing a study on the pension rights for Members of the European Parliament

In July 2020, the European Parliament contracted Blomeyer & Sanz, in partnership with the Institute for Public Affairs (Warsaw) to prepare a study on the pension rights of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) before and after the Members Statute in 2009. In the words of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for this assignment, this study aims to: provide the Members of the Budgetary Control Committee with solid and reliable data on MEPs’ pensions; analyse the national pension systems in place for MEPs at the following points in time (1990, 1995, 2004, 2007, 2009 in all (then) Member States, and thus give a clear factual description of the pension situation of MEPs who have accrued their rights at national level and of MEPs who have pension rights under the Members Statute; for broader context, the system in one third country with a dedicated pension system for MPs is also included (United States). The study will be prepared throughout the months of July to October 2020.
